SHEQ Manager

Our client is a global market leader in industrial packaging, they work in more than 220 locations across 40 countries. They supply packaging solutions to customers in chemical, pharmaceutical, agricultural and food industries worldwide. In the Netherlands, they operate 4 manufacturing facilities. For their productionsite in Amsterdam, which employs 130 people, we are searching for a SHEQ Manager.

As SHEQ Manager you will ensure compliance with applicable legislation and international standards while driving a culture of safety, operational excellence, quality and continuous improvement across the manufacturing site. Working closely with Production, Maintenance, Supply Chain and Plant Management, you will play a crucial role in improving overall plant performance and customer satisfaction. You lead the SHEQ team of 5 members and report directly to the Plant Manager.

What will you do?
Safety, Health & Environment

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve the HSE management system.
• Ensure compliance with HSE legislation and company standards.
• Lead risk assessments, safety inspections, audits, and workplace evaluations.
• Manage incident reporting, investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions.
• Drive a proactive safety culture and increase safety awareness throughout the organization.

Quality Management & Compliance

• Manage and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS).
• Plan, conduct, and support internal and external audits.
• Maintain compliance with ISO management systems and quality standards.
• Lead customer complaint investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Ensure robust process control, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality assurance practices.

SHEQ Governance & Risk Management

• Develop and maintain SHEQ policies, procedures and management systems.
• Advise plant management on compliance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Monitor KPIs, performance trends, and SHEQ reporting.
• Ensure compliance with certifications, legal requirements, and corporate standards.

Leadership & Capability Development

• Lead, coach, and develop the SHEQ team.
• Increase SHEQ awareness and ownership across all departments.
• Support managers and supervisors in implementing SHEQ standards.
• Deliver training programs and drive behavioural change throughout the organization.

Continuous Improvement & Risk Reduction

• Lead improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, environmental performance, and operational excellence.
• Analyse trends, identify systemic risks, and implement sustainable improvements.
• Facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement across the manufacturing operation

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Plant Performance

• Collaborate closely with Production, Maintenance, and Planning & Logistics Managers
• Provide expert guidance while enabling operational ownership of SHEQ
• Align SHEQ priorities with plant objectives and customer requirements
• Communicate risks, performance, and improvement opportunities transparently

• Bachelor's degree (HBO) in Safety, Environmental or Technical discipline.
• Higher Safety Engineering qualification (HVK) or an equivalent is a plus
• Minimum of 5 years' relevant SHEQ experience in a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment.
• Solid knowledge of Dutch HSE legislation.
• Experience with SHEQ systems, audits (ISO9001) and compliance management
• Proven experience in influencing operational teams and management, building engagement and translating policies into practical improvements
• Fluent in English and Dutch

• Annual gross salary between € 80.000 and € 107.000, depending on your experience and qualifications.
